“For what it’s worth”

ripples-on-a-pond-big

I’m taking time to write these words as an attempt to somewhat fill an obligation. God has so moved in my “Gotham Quest”, and he has so answered prayers and opened doors, that my time spent on this blogsite simply no longer compares. Alas, so few comments, so little affect really being done compared to the “Gotham Vision” God gave me. This blogsite has simply become an interruption to what I need to be doing, but I do need to tie up a few loose ends so as not to leave everyone completely hanging. So for those 2-3 people who are really reading this blog, I will try to answer questions. I’ll try to answer what I can think of now, and then if you have other questions, I” try to respond.

1.) First of all, as I went downtown that night to work out on the steps of our War Monument, (91 steps), I really did encounter a young man just out of college, and he was pacing back and forth looking at his hand and then back to the sky. It was nighttime, but the monument also has lights. It was an eerie set-up in the night with city lights, tall buildings about us, and stars in the sky if you could see them. I had planned to elaborate on the whole experience had I wrote the details of this story, but even now I have a neighbor waiting on me to take a chainsaw and help cut limbs from his damaged trees. (We had a bad storm.) God has used the storms, dogs, and various things to open ministry in my own neighborhood. OOPs, now I’ mixing two questions.

Anyway, God opened a door for me to speak to the young man pacing, and it turned out he was practicing a speech. He wanted to become a motivational speaker and he had his first event, a class of graduating high schoolers, he was speaking to the next day. We talked for a good twenty minutes about God, vision, Bible, and motivation. I prayed with him before I left, and yes, it was also a very good workout. But ever since I embraced the “Gotham Vision” and watered it in prayer and action, God has been opening doors. I’ve had at least 3 encounters on that War Memorial.

2.) The vision has become one of “Neighborhoods”, my own, and others. God showed me a different way to do “Home Groups”, small groups, life groups, or whatever you want to call them. First of all, you need to find that special person in a neighborhood who is willing to be “Priestlike” to those around him. In other words, “Do What Jesus Would Do”. Once you find one of these rare individuals, you impart vision and begin a small Bible study/prayer group in their home, but here is the difference…YOU DO NOT INVITE ANYONE FROM YOUR CHURCH TO YOUR GROUP, UNLESS THEY LIVE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

The key is that you only reach out to those in your neighborhood, they become your main ministry, and you look to find others willing to do the same thing. This is why I’m about to take my chainsaw and spend my Saturday morning getting to know my neighbor who I barely know. Before this day is over, we will be “connected”, and then he will let me speak to him about Jesus, eternity, Bible, faith, God, church, little by little it will come. There must be relationship, and the phrase, “Hi, I’m your neighbor”, still works in America.

3.) I’m also back to working on writing a book. My first book, “The Last Christmas of Jonah Joe”, continues to touch people’s lives and is now in a few church libraries, but God has me writing another story called “God’s Bounty Hunters”. I’m loving it, but it requires time, and I could be writing those words right now, rather than these that I can only access that 2-3 people might read. It just doesn’t compare. Last week, in another neighborhood where I have found a willing Bounty Hunter Priest, I had the privilege of sharing the Gospel message with a young man whose house caved in from the storm and now has temporarily moved into the house of our Priest. His girl friend has moved in too. So, because I am in this neighborhood, not in the church box, but in this neighborhood, I now have three I am sharing God’s word with, and we have only been there one month. It started with “the One”.

4.) The vision is to: “Go forth…in weakness.” Paul said, when I am weak, then am I strong. It is a paradox. That is why we don’t understand it and fail to do it. God makes it work because it is his way and not ours. He sent the seventy “forth” in “weakness”, as lambs amidst wolves. I don’t have time to completely get into this because I am busy living it. I am not just a crusader for Christ, but I am a “Caped” crusader, because as I recognize my weakness, but still obey and go forth in faith, God Covers me. That “Covering” is an anointing that all the great witnesses of God has known. It is the power to be a witness. It is becoming the Priest we are called to be, going forth to save our city, one person, and one neighborhood at a time. The Ripple Effect. I have written about this. There is much written on this site if there are those who are curious.

5.) Batman said, “Gotham needs me.” Jesus says the same about your neighborhood and city, but we must be “Caped” if God is to use us. PRAYER is key to our priesthood. My house shall be known as a house of prayer, Jesus said. Then we go forth not in our strength, but in our weakness. We do not resist God, but we are weak towards him. We are weak towards our God so we can be strong in our God. I embraced this Batman metaphor, this Gotham vision, and now my life is full of adventure and passion as I see the enemy being exposed and pushed back around me. It is a heroic lifestyle for those who understand the true heart of God. This vision has been a tremendous spiritual blessing in my life.

6.) I may try to report in here once in a while when I get the chance, but for me, the action is out in the streets. People are dying out there. Jesus came to be with the sick. He leaves the 99 to go to the one. If you’re one of the 99 and you don’t feel God like you use to? He’s probably waiting for you to leave the 99, of which you are one, and help him reach another ONE. In a sense, his strong presence has left you to find the ONE, because you are now part of the 99, but he invites you to join him in that great adventure to save your city.

I’m not even going to check this article for mistakes, it is what it is. I’m anxious to get out there. For the 2-3 faithful readers I have had, thank-you so much for your encouragement. If you have a blogsite reaching and affecting people, keep doing it, but for me, I seem to be more effective “out there”. I am still writing, but it looks like “book form” has become my goal. I love the things God has done with “Jonah Joe”. I give them out as God leads me and the feedback has been awesome. Be blessed everyone, and love your neighbor as yourself. I’ll drop a line from time to time if God leads me to do so.

“Embracing the Light”

ftf06

“And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.”  (St. John 3:19 NLT)

If you are reading this article, chances are you are not one of those spoken of in the above verse, but you are one who embraces God’s light, and if Jesus stood before you right now, you would give him the biggest hug ever and not want to let go, because…in essence…that is what you are doing when you embrace the light…you’re embracing Jesus!

Now I’m going to take this message a very strange direction because I am likely writing to believers who want as much of God as possible, and I have seen an error in our Christian camp that bugs me. The error likely started as the result of the King James version being slightly off on a certain translation. This error certainly opened the door for those who would want to run with such an agenda.

In Revelation 1:6 and 5:10, it would seem that the word “kingdom” was mistranslated as the word “king”. Now you can search this out for yourself, but I’ve looked it over for a while, and the mistake seems to be evident. You may be thinking this is a small mistake. It perhaps could have been except for we seem to have developed an entire theology around being “Kings” in God’s kingdom instead of Priest! This false perception has done much damage to the body of Christ, and if you are a seeker of greater light, then you might want to hear my reasoning on this.

First of all, to add a little more evidence to the error, both the Old Testament in Exodus 19:6 and the N.T. in I Peter 2:5 & 9 speak of us as a kingdom of Priest, a holy priesthood, a royal priesthood. If Revelation 1:6 & 5:10 were translated as “kingdom” instead of kings, then it would be in perfect harmony with everything written before, but when it is translated as “kings”, there begins to be division. Also, both the NLT and the Amplified Bible have it as “kingdom”. But why is this so important, and how has it caused so much damage?

Instead of one long article, I’m going to do this in 2 or 3 short ones. So let me throw a few things out here quickly. The life of a Priest is very different than the life of a king. The desires of a king are very different than the desires of a priest. Whereas a king is set on the authority to move men, the priest is set on the mission of moving God! And let me ask you which is higher? How important is it for us to move God?

Now if the scripture really did say kings, then we would know there is a purpose for both and God has a way of working it out, but “kings” is a mistranslation and every action of Christ proves it to be! Even to the washing of his disciples feet! Yes Jesus is the ultimate king, but our mission here in earth at this time is that of priesthood! We are called to serve, not be served. We have Churches full of people trying to build their own castle and throne and to worn out to be faithful to serve others in the duty of their priesthood. This is light! This is more light if you want it. The vision of priesthood in Christ is more powerful than any king could ever be!

Kings desire to move the peoples, but Priest know the importance of moving God, without which nothing worth doing is done! The Church is called to move God… “If my people?” Only God can break down the walls of bondage and addiction and truly deliver a person.

A king is looking for his castle and throne. whereas the priest is looking for a cave to seek God, and then walk out of there clothed in God’s light! The king loves fancy royal robes but the priest yearns for holy robes. The king is not concerned if the fire goes out on the altar, whereas the priest knows we have been commanded of God to never let that fire go out! We have too many “would-be-kings” and not enough “Fire Keepers”!

Are you catching a glimpse of the damage this “King’s Kids” theology has done to the body of Christ? Can you imagine what might happen in God’s church and in the fields of the lost, if the average Christian suddenly loved to fast and pray? Yes, I did use the word “fast” in there. (A four letter word? Not to a priest!)

Please consider what the difference might be in the world today if God’s people were really “on fire” for God? You cannot serve God and money. A King seeks his gold, a priest seeks to become pure gold. Please consider what I have written here, until the next time.

You can’t take it with you, or can you?

We’ve all heard the saying, “You can’t take it with you.” In death we leave it all behind. The money, big house, hot car, all those material things we worked so hard for. We spent so much of our life pursueing these things, but what are they worth now? As Ecclesiastes would say, they pass to other hands, and who is to say that all your hard work does not end up in the hands of a fool?

However, there actually are a few things that go with you. Have you thought about it? Maybe not? We spend so much time pursueing the things we can’t take, and we fail to realize the old saying is not completely true! We would do well to seriously consider what will go with us in the grave.

I can think of three things that go with you. Maybe you can think of more, but for my purposes these three will do. Most important of all is your SOUL, this is your most valuable possession! However, your SOUL will be affected by the other two. When you realize how few things you can actually take with you, it should cause us to put a very high value on those items.

What value is your SOUL compared to earthly pleasures you may be seeking? The soul is eternal, and may be possessed by you eternally if you choose. What other possessions do you have that you can say that of? But God’s Word says you lost it! Sin has separated us from God and the wages of sin is death! What tragedy it is to lose the most important thing we can eternally possess!

This would be more tragic than losing your home, money, health, anything you may “think” you own, because you do not really own those things. You will let go of everyone of them. You will leave them behind as your SOUL passes through the veil of death to meet its Maker.

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Matt. 16:26a)

Lose his own soul. His own soul. It’s yours to lose.

(Luke 21:19) “In your patience possess ye your souls.” (Jesus speaking to his disciples.)

So what are the other two things you take with you? Your words and deeds. These will be the things whereby your SOUL is judged. What do our words and deeds reveal about us? Your words and actions will reveal if you ever truely received Christ as your saviour. It will not be your words alone, but your words and deeds. God’s Word says you may judge a tree by its’ fruit.

True salvation, the saving of our soul so we may possess it eternally, will show up in your words and deeds. Not only when you speak those words of repentance unto God, admitting you are a sinner, and how sorry you are, and your desire to follow after him, but in your actions, proving if you meant those words or not.

You are your soul. If you die in a lost condition, then you have lost the most precious thing God gave you. You were born in this lost condition, and you failed to believe, you failed to make a right choice and accept God’s tremendous offer of grace. And for what reason? To pursue a bunch of stuff you can’t take with you? So sad.

This is my first time working my blogsite from the downtown Indianapolis Library. I am shoulder to shoulder with others. My Bible is spread open on the table as I write. Four different people have set next to me during this time. As I get better at this it is my hope that a door will open with someone.

I’m not use to the distractions going on around here, compared to my writing nook at home. I have struggled to write my thoughts today, but the potential is worth it. This is just my first time. We actually just got our Internet service back up at home for one-third the price we were paying, but I intend to come here 2-4 times a month, praying for a door to open, and then another, and another. It will happen.

I come here on Tuesdays because there is a Southern Baptist Home Group meeting in this downtown area at 7:00 pm. So I have this one big day a week. I work till four, hit the Library till 6:30, and the Home Group at 7:00. This is my Gotham. I can’t expect anything to happen if I’m not out here. Things are happening, and I hope to write more on those things soon.

LET THE RIPPLES GO FORTH!

“J.E.D.I. Theology” #4

“To journey without being changed is to be a nomad. To change without journeying is to be a chameleon. To journey and be transformed is to be a pilgrim.”  – Mark Nepo  (Taken from book: Christian Wisdom of the Jedi Masters by Dick Staub.)

“The same followed Paul and us, and cried saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us THE WAY of salvation.” Acts 16:17

Luke Skywalker did not know it, but as he went about his drab and dreary day upon the desert planet, his whole life was about to change. He was about to take not only a physical journey, but also a spiritual one, on his way to becoming something more, a transformation. He was so restless within, anxious for a great adventure. He was outgrowing his current environment, but was he ready for an encounter with Obi-Wan? Ready or not, it came. Have you outgrown your current environment?

Many are called but few are chosen. In the parable of the sower, he was casting his seeds everywhere. Those seeds were scattered into ditches, on the road, in some fields, some on good ground and some on bad. Many different things happened to those seeds. Some died on the hard ground. Some died for lack of water. Others took root quickly, but became distracted by cares of the world, weeds choked them out, and they did not make the journey. But some…fell on good ground…made a journey…were changed in the journey… and produced.

It’s so easy to be distracted. Many times we settle for way less than were capable of because we don’t want to discipline ourself to the heroic journey. Yes, there is training and discipline involved to have Jesus Every Day Intense and Judge Every Day Inspired. J.E.D.I. Theology is for those who are looking for something more, a transformation, an heroic journey that changes you, and you’re willing to pay the price to become that person, come what may.

The power is in the Priesthood. What do I mean by that? The price we pay is to learn how to live as the priest we are called to be, involving such disciplines as quality prayer, redline faith, willing sacrifice motivated in love, fasting, study, speaking to mountains, arresting the devil, standing in the gap between man and God and offering a hand up. It is a physical and spiritual journey. It is a hero’s journey. It requires courage, a sense of mission, the vision of the need, and a passion for the purpose. It requires your true commitment to rise above the “settled for” life, to live like a man or woman on a mission, because you are.

There is A WAY that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the WAYS of death. We are God’s people of THE WAY. We need to be that people in this earth. There is a way for us to live that is powerful and full of peace and passion, if we will rise to it. Jesus is that way, as we pray, Holy Spirit master me. Will the ripples of our life make a meaningful difference in our neighborhood, our city, our earth? This is J.E.D.I. Christianity. “JESUS EVERY DAY INTENSE!”

“Do You have your Gotham?” > Chapter Fourteen

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

“REDLINE FAITH”

…… Oh Lord, you know I’ve been here before, but is there not a cause? I will trust you Lord, no matter what, and if no man comes to our rescue, I know you will. Amen.” The prayer ended.

Still very sick, still confused as to the reason why, bank account and bills plunging rapidly into the red, old vehicles barely still functioning, Don pressed on in faith. “Will you wake the Lord?” The question kept coming.

“Sleep on Lord, I wait.” was his answer, but even in his answering, there was the unknowing. The storm continued raging and the boat tossing, but was Jesus sleeping? Did he not see what was going on? Will you wake him in fear, or wait?

The worse part was feeling like he was not caring properly for his wife. It was one thing for him to endure hardness, but having to watch his wife? She was still very sick too, and her 2000 Dodge minivan had no heat. The heater blower motor had gone out and it was dead of winter in Indiana. She had no business in a freezing van as sick as she was, but the only other option was an old truck with bad tires she did not trust. “Why Lord? I know this is a test, but I still don’t understand why. Why now?”

Making matters worse was the weight of God’s vision upon him. After a year with God, he knew he had been given a great vision to reach people in neighborhoods, and was ready to run with this! However, sickness and poverty had him at a complete standstill. Even so, every decision made was made with the knowledge of this great mission upon him. He was not free to meet his needs in a worldly way, or he would abort this baby in his womb. If he went back to working sixty hours a week at some job not of God, the vision would die. The vision was at stake. This was the devil’s attack and he had to be faithful come what may! A calling from God can involve great sacrifices at times. Don understood the weight of this very well, even though most others might not. He knew there would be few who would understand. How many times he had been in this position before, and God always came through. Would he wake the Lord?

Funny thing poverty, how it can twist things. It seems people just don’t understand. The early morning prayer meeting he had been so faithful to. The guys liked to eat breakfast out afterwards. Not cheap places either. Waffle House was popular. They wanted him to join them. Don wanted to join them. Important things were talked about over those meals and connections were made. Sometimes he would go because he felt it was so very important to be in that conversation and in that group. Now here is where it gets complicated and you might not understand. I pray you try to understand. I mean no harm here

The group knew he was still without a job, and he had dropped as many “hints” as to his welfare as he dared, but nobody was “getting it”. However, when he would occasionally decide to join them and purchase the cheapest meal he could find on the menu, someone always picked up his ticket so he would not have to pay. For this he was grateful, but bad as this sounds, it was not breakfast out that he “needed”.

Perhaps if he were someone who spent his life looking for “hand-outs”, perhaps he could have enjoyed those free meals, but in actuality… he dreaded them. He could not enjoy the meal while he thought about his sick wife driving a cold van, or how the electric bill was going to get paid, or the hospital bill. As bad as it sounds, his friends thought they were helping him out by being so generous to buy his meal, but in actuality it was no help at all. He didn’t mind living poor. He’d been there before. The food he fixed at home was fine, but there were needs on his mind, and no one saw or heard.

Earlier that summer, God had led him to help a man who was fighting cancer. For weeks he had done a yard sale in his yard for this man. Don was still doing okay at that time, but had no spare income, so he did a yard sale which eventually made a total of $1,600.00 after all the weekends were added up. The money was given each week as it was earned, and it was all simply handed over, cash, no questions asked. He knew what it was like to be on both sides of this fence. But where were the rich guys for him? The guys gifted in making money just so they can help others in need? Maybe they were busy living their best life now?

Funny thing what Jesus said when he was observing the “widow and her two mites”. He said the rich people had all given out of their “abundance”. In other words, there had been no “sacrifice” in their giving. Where were the rich guys? He didn’t know. Perhaps checking out their next new car? Trimming their yard? Paying their $120.00/month cell phone bill? Eating out everyday? Who knew? But they were not there at this time, for these needs. It’s not about 10%, it’s about level of sacrifice. A poor persons 2% can be a greater sacrifice than a rich man’s ten percent, or twenty, or whatever.

Don knew he was an “opportunity” for someone, just like the man with cancer had been an opportunity of blessing for him. He also knew that in due time, if no “Prosperity Person” met his need, God eventually would. And God did. This story continues.

“REDLINE FAITH”

Ever feel redlined?

12 Apostles on a ship. Lost their stomachs every dip.

Lightning flashed and thunder roared!

Will you wake the Lord?

Easy faith in good times, not so easy when bad.

Bills plunging redline! Raging like a sea!

Waves crashing red! Seek to swallow me.

He said to cross the sea.

Should they have let him sleep?

Was that not the test, a faith that lets him rest?

Faith plunging redline.

T’is a strange thing indeed, to be in need, a raging sea…

while the Lord sleeps.

Perhaps he is inviting us, to a place of powerful rest.

Faith in the red.

My yoke is easy, my burden light.

“Ripple Theology” #1

Theology = “The study of religious faith, practice, and experience, especially: the study of God and God’s relation to the world.” (The Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

WARNING: I woke up this morning and felt God moving on me so strong to write, write, write, write, write. I can’t explain this, but I want to warn everyone that I will be popping up a lot in your email, if you are a follower. Some of you may decide to delete me, and I understand if you do, but I hope you will simply ignore me when needed, and take advantage of those things that will INSPIRE.

I love metaphors that INSPIRE. As a teacher/writer, I love to paint a picture in our mind that we can strap a saddle to and ride that horse right through heaven’s gate. I awoke today flooded with ideas I simply must pursue with words on cyberspace.

Here is what you can expect coming.

More of the real life story of “Gotham”.

“Ripple Theology” > This was sparked by a poem I wrote recently and there is much more to be said about that poem, of which I will begin in this article.

“Batman Theology” > David understood what it meant to be a Caped Crusader for God, Caped in God’s “Covering”. There is much we need to learn about this. This teaching closely relates to the “Gotham” story I’ve been sharing. Also, since Batman dealt with some really nasty characters, I will be delving into the Book of Revelation and the Antichrist to some degree. These times are coming!

“J.E.D.I.” Theology >  Like the movie coming, there is an “Awakening” going on! God is on the move! Many times Hollywood, or the world, love to copy the things of God in a perverted form. Satan has a habit of this, as in his “unholy” trinity of the Antichrist, False Prophet, and the Beast.  J.E.D.I. Theology will focus a lot on “Holy Spirit, master me!” It will also speak of great Christian forefathers of the past who showed a great deal of spiritual mastery. “Mastery” is spoken of in scripture and encouraged. I will be using a book by Dick Staub, called: “Christian Wisdom of the Jedi Masters” as an aid in these articles.

So, with these things in mind, let us begin our first teaching on “Ripple Theology”.

“RIPPLE THEOLOGY”

Here is how this poem came to be.  It was very early as I lay in bed and I knew I had a thirteen hour day of work ahead of me. I looked at the glow of the red numbers on the clock and saw there was ten minutes before the alarm would sound, and nothing in me wanted to get out of bed. WHY GET UP? IS IT REALLY WORTH IT? > Have you ever been there? Spiritual as we may be, sometimes the tedious day in and day out activities of this life just don’t seem worth it. Especially when you think about how great heaven is going to be. Why put so much effort into the here and now?

I work for a Security Company in a bad part of town. I knew I was going to spend eight hours strapped to a desk while watching cameras and checking people, and then another five hours patrolling a parking lot. My whole day was going to be nothing but work, and how was I to reach my own neighborhood, or any neighborhood like this? My passion, my heart is in discipleship, reaching and teaching a neighborhood, and 13 hours of security work sounded miserable as I lay in the warm bed of a cold house. Time to get up.

That was my mood, and I did not want to lose it, because I knew I could write something from it, something that would help me in the future, and perhaps help others. The desk work is actually pretty easy because the North desk is a low traffic area, I mostly watch cameras. I had learned to survive this boredom by doodling on poems. A small scrap of paper, a thought to ponder, you write a line or two and then watch the cameras as you ponder the thought for another line. It causes the time to fly and helps you stay alert for the cameras.

As I got to work, “Hey Don, You’re training John on the North desk today.” Hhmm, this was a first, because I am actually the parking lot guy and only fill in on the desk. Unexpectedly, a partner today. A chance to witness! But how? Well, no working on poems. Drat.

Turns out John was a young black man who already had a day on the desk, pretty much knew what to do, and did not like to talk. He wanted to play on his phone. I warned him about that and later he got in trouble for it, but in the meantime I couldn’t seem to spark any conversation, so I turned to my poem after all. Well, believe it or not, the poem is how I got to witness to John that day, and he loved it so much that he insisted I put it on facebook. He said my poem could change some lives. I believe this poem can too, if only people will take the time to look at the big picture, because that’s what this poem is, and that is what “RIPPLE THEOLOGY” is. Looking at the Big Picture.

You just don’t know what is in a day. I could have said to hell with everything else,(even though I don’t speak that way, but that is what my “actions” would have said), I could have just felt sorry for myself, called in sick and had a pity party all day, but I am more than just me, I am also responsible for the ripples I create, and Jesus said to live for the ripples, not yourself! Now read those first few lines while knowing my frame of mind.

“MORE THAN I KNOW”

Lord help me know the value of a soul…even my own.

These things we take for granted.

Another day?

The sun rises. / Just another day?

Is there really any such thing?

A stone drops in water.

Is that all I am?

Just the plunk of a stone?

Is that all I am?

Ker-plunk?

But no…

there are ripples.

Had I not gotten out of bed, this poem would not have been written, John would not have been witnessed to, a lost day’s income, and even this article would not have happened. The RIPPLE EFFECT goes on and on.

God’s word says we “REAP what we SOW.” We are a stone dropped in water, and sometimes we feel  like that is all we are, but no…WE ARE THE RIPPLES. There is much more to be said about “RIPPLE THEOLOGY”. Hope you enjoy.

“Do You have your Gotham?” > Chapter Eleven.

THE ENCOUNTER III > This story is written as if fictional, but it is not, I’m living this every day. Have you heard a call in your soul saying, “Gotham needs you?” This is one man’s attempt to identify and answer that call. To take up the mantle of being a Caped Crusader. I am caped in God’s Covering and led by his Spirit. Indianapolis is my Gotham. Where and what is yours?

CHAPTER ELEVEN

December 17, 2014. Don sat in the darkness of his God Cave pondering. It was still early and he had not prayed yet, but his mind was filled with thoughts of last night. So he sat in his special place, his Batcave, his place of ministry and focus. Only a computer screen glowed in front of him for some lighting. His Bible lay open in that glow.

“What was that? What just happened last night? Was that real?” But it was so simple, and it was so powerful. He could still feel God moving through him as he had prayed for those people. And what about Charlie? “I never witnessed to a person in such a simple way before, and yet I think it was the best witness I ever did. What was that, Lord? I want more.

His thoughts continued to roll as he replayed last night in his mind. “Points of pain” the Southern Baptist had said. And now this young man that he had had the privilege of mentoring when he was young and growing up, now this young man had become a connection point to everything God had revealed to him in his one year sabbatical. That one year was racing towards an end, soon he would find a job and get back into the workforce, but not quite yet, and God’s leading was getting stronger every day!

Chris, the young man in mention, had become a Church planter for the Southern Baptist denomination. They had a mandate to target “Points of Pain” all around and within the city of Indianapolis. He had literally started from scratch with this inner city apartment complex. He went in there praying and seeking a way to connect and minister. There had been resistance from the apartments in the beginning. They did not know him, his wife, and his five daughters, three of whom are foster children. They did not know this strange white person coming in wanting to plant flowers and do simple landscaping and property clean-up for them. They were suspicious, and thought he might pose a threat. It was a rocky road in the beginning, but Chris had heard God’s voice and he kept praying and obeying in simple faith.

Then a Southern Baptist Ministry team came up to help him for a day. They drove a long ways to get there and now Chris had them helping do landscaping. A leader on the team wanted to have a word with him. “Look, Chris, I didn’t drive all the way up here to do landscaping. Isn’t there something more going on here?”

Chris had no answer, because as of yet no one in the complex had opened up to them. He walked away to his car and began to pray to God. “Oh God, I know you led me here, but how can I answer these people that have come so far to help? I need something from you God.” He poured out his heart for a few minutes, not knowing what he was going to do. When he finally turned around to go back to the work, he discovered that the very first person had made contact, and she was talking to the very man who had been asking is there no more than this? It also turned out that this lady had a son who was killed in the very playground they were working, and she just wanted to let them know she appreciated what they were doing. Now Don knew he had just seen what this grassroots outreach had grown to. It was still very fragile, but it was definitely growing! It was alive! And God showed up there!

And then there was the witnessing encounter with Charlie.

“Hhmm, wow Lord. What a special night.” Don thought about his next blogsite article he needed to write. This story of “Do you have your Gotham” was very alive and well, and it was going somewhere. He also felt like he had a lead on the job he should apply for. A place working downtown with opportunity to meet people and make connections. After much walking around and praying, it seemed to make logical sense, and so it was time. It was time to make a decision and move in that direction. He would send out four applications by way of Internet. He had four places already picked out to target. The thought of it scared him a little, no… who was he kidding… it scared him a lot! But if this was the path, God would help him. He was poised and ready to make applications to become… a “STARBUCKS barista”.

“Lord help me. It’s time to pray.”

(I promise the next chapter to come soon, and more details of that night will be given. The apartment complex will not be named, but this is an evangelistic outreach you don’t want to miss. We ask the question of W.W.J.D? What would Jesus do? But I have been asking the question of: W.D.J.D? What “did” Jesus do? He very plainly showed us the discipleship method he used with his home in Capernaum as his home base. This story is still a month behind and I can tell you there are great details of this journey yet to come. Thanks for reading. 🙂

“God’s Covering”

What is it called when one has forgotten what was long ago known, and with defeat or victory hanging in the balance, must remember…must relearn…must reknow?  Stand ye in the ways and see…and ask for the old paths…where is the good way…and walk therein…and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

What is this thing called: God’s Covering? Do we really need it?

YES! For only a Caped Crusader will have power in God!

Consider these scriptures: Isaiah 30:1-2 > “Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, BUT NOT OF ME, and that COVER WITH A COVERING, BUT NOT OF MY SPIRIT, that they may add sin unto sin: That walk to go DOWN INTO EGYPT, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the STRENGTH OF PHARAOH, and to trust in the SHADOW OF EGYPT.”

David knew of the COVERING of God when he wrote: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under THE SHADOW of the Almighty.” And three verses later when he wrote: “He shall COVER thee with his feathers, and UNDER his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”

In this day of American prosperity have we forgotten the COVERING of the Lord, for the love of money? Have we forgotten the young rich man to whom our Lord said forsake all? Or the disciples who were instructed to not even take an extra coat? Do we seek the COVERING of his shadow in which even the shadow of Peter, because of God’s COVERING, would heal the sick? Is this not the same Peter who said silver and gold have I none, but in the name of Jesus, rise up and walk?

Why am I targeting the sin of greed and materialism so much, for it is sure it is not the only vice robbing us of the anointing today and stripping our capes from us, leaving us to stand weak and ashamed. Love of money, lust, pornography, adultery, murder of babies…the list goes on and on…but so much preaching about MONEY. Be successful! Be happy! Live your dreams! And yet we are blind and naked, stripped of our capes, and do not even know.

King Saul’s army may be looking good right now, but David’s army is out there. They are moving behind the scenes and they have God’s COVERING! They have not gone to the world, to EGYPT for counsel! They have not gone to a medium, a witch for counsel! They have sought the Lord until the Cape of his anointing is upon them! David and his army of Caped Crusaders are out there, working behind the scenes, and when Saul’s army fails in a day, they will begin to rise!

Have you gone to EGYPT for your counsel? King Saul did not inquire of the Lord. David brought the Ark into Jerusalem after Saul and his army was dead, dead, and dead. A tragedy David wept over! And for Jonathon! A good man in the wrong army!

Oh, I don’t know if you even understand a word I am saying? Is your Pastor preaching EGYPT? Is your church seeking to COVER with a COVERING, but not of the Lord’s Spirit? And by so doing they add sin unto sin? If so, you are in the wrong army. You might even be a Jonathon in the wrong army. So sad. Come out from among them before it is too late! But must you be loyal to Saul? Just because he may have been a spiritual father to you?

Paul said, follow me as I follow the Lord. If I stop following the Lord, Leave me! Find someone who is! Find a David! Find God’s COVERING and be caped in his power again! Perhaps for the first time! Relearn, reknow, seek out the old ways of great spiritual forefathers! Leave this modern day EGYPT seeker!

Does your church seek worldly leadership? Do they glorify successful business men? Do they seek to learn from them? Do they run their church more like a business than the Kingdom of God? Do they seek strength from Pharaoh, and to trust in the SHADOW of EGYPT? IF SO, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! AND FIND A DAVID! FIND A PAUL FOLLOWING THE LORD!

Oh, I don’t know if you’re hearing me or not, with my silly Batman illustrations. Speaking of finding your Batcave, hearing your Gotham, donning your cape. Speaking of devotion, training, focus, and sacrifice.

They that do know their Lord, shall be strong…and do exploits.

“And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries:: but the people who do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” (Dan. 11:32)

WE ARE CALLED TO BE MORE THAN A GOOD PERSON. WE ARE CALLED TO BE A PRIEST LIFTING UP HOLY SACRIFICES UNTO HIM. FROM THERE SHALL ARISE CAPED CRUSADERS OF WHICH BATMAN COULD ONLY DREAM. DO YOU UNDERSTAND PRIESTHOOD EVANGELISM? DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

“Batman Theology”

Where do you go after preaching the message for every good Christian to lay down those sins that so easily beset us?

Why would I ask that? Because I have seen this happen so many times. People get convicted under the powerful anointing of God, they go to the altar and they repent. They leave the altar full of the junk they know God has been convicting them of, and now they have “empty places” in them. Empty places that act as voids. Mother Nature resists a vacuum and something will be sucked into those empty places.

But brother Don, won’t those places be filled with more of God? Not if that person does not make the effort, and many times they lack a certain vision mojo to make that effort, sad to say. Consequently, the void will keep seeking to refill the empty places, and many times things will be sucked in that are even worse than before, because now the person is disillusioned and sees no hope.

So what is this “training” that Paul speaks of? (II Timothy 2:21)

“If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.”

“And every man that striveth for the mastery…”  (I Cor. 9:25)

What’s supposed to fill those empty places? Could it be a vision of the fight? Did not David ask, “IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?” The GOOD FIGHT? Do we have a vision for it? Do we see the millions dying and going to hell, and the thousands in our own city? Is Gotham crying out to your deaf ears?

I know this is fictional but just humor me for a minute. Would Batman buffet his body and train himself to warrior elite if there were no fight? If there were no ultimate bad guys, no city to save, no tragedy of seeing his parents shot down in cold blood before his very eyes? Without those just causes would he ever have become the Batman? Why would he? Why work so hard and suffer such pain if their is no worthy fight to fight?

Have we lost the vision of the fight? In the realms of the spirit, only a Priest has power.

We are called to be more than just a good person, we have entered a Priesthood. The day the average Christian catches the vision of Priesthood Evangelism, we will turn this world upside down again! I have written more about this at 1000housesofhope.wordpress.com if you like to know more. Look in the footer for “Priesthood Evangelism”. Are you enough of a spiritual Bounty Hunter to seek such things?
