“For what it’s worth”

ripples-on-a-pond-big

I’m taking time to write these words as an attempt to somewhat fill an obligation. God has so moved in my “Gotham Quest”, and he has so answered prayers and opened doors, that my time spent on this blogsite simply no longer compares. Alas, so few comments, so little affect really being done compared to the “Gotham Vision” God gave me. This blogsite has simply become an interruption to what I need to be doing, but I do need to tie up a few loose ends so as not to leave everyone completely hanging. So for those 2-3 people who are really reading this blog, I will try to answer questions. I’ll try to answer what I can think of now, and then if you have other questions, I” try to respond.

1.) First of all, as I went downtown that night to work out on the steps of our War Monument, (91 steps), I really did encounter a young man just out of college, and he was pacing back and forth looking at his hand and then back to the sky. It was nighttime, but the monument also has lights. It was an eerie set-up in the night with city lights, tall buildings about us, and stars in the sky if you could see them. I had planned to elaborate on the whole experience had I wrote the details of this story, but even now I have a neighbor waiting on me to take a chainsaw and help cut limbs from his damaged trees. (We had a bad storm.) God has used the storms, dogs, and various things to open ministry in my own neighborhood. OOPs, now I’ mixing two questions.

Anyway, God opened a door for me to speak to the young man pacing, and it turned out he was practicing a speech. He wanted to become a motivational speaker and he had his first event, a class of graduating high schoolers, he was speaking to the next day. We talked for a good twenty minutes about God, vision, Bible, and motivation. I prayed with him before I left, and yes, it was also a very good workout. But ever since I embraced the “Gotham Vision” and watered it in prayer and action, God has been opening doors. I’ve had at least 3 encounters on that War Memorial.

2.) The vision has become one of “Neighborhoods”, my own, and others. God showed me a different way to do “Home Groups”, small groups, life groups, or whatever you want to call them. First of all, you need to find that special person in a neighborhood who is willing to be “Priestlike” to those around him. In other words, “Do What Jesus Would Do”. Once you find one of these rare individuals, you impart vision and begin a small Bible study/prayer group in their home, but here is the difference…YOU DO NOT INVITE ANYONE FROM YOUR CHURCH TO YOUR GROUP, UNLESS THEY LIVE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

The key is that you only reach out to those in your neighborhood, they become your main ministry, and you look to find others willing to do the same thing. This is why I’m about to take my chainsaw and spend my Saturday morning getting to know my neighbor who I barely know. Before this day is over, we will be “connected”, and then he will let me speak to him about Jesus, eternity, Bible, faith, God, church, little by little it will come. There must be relationship, and the phrase, “Hi, I’m your neighbor”, still works in America.

3.) I’m also back to working on writing a book. My first book, “The Last Christmas of Jonah Joe”, continues to touch people’s lives and is now in a few church libraries, but God has me writing another story called “God’s Bounty Hunters”. I’m loving it, but it requires time, and I could be writing those words right now, rather than these that I can only access that 2-3 people might read. It just doesn’t compare. Last week, in another neighborhood where I have found a willing Bounty Hunter Priest, I had the privilege of sharing the Gospel message with a young man whose house caved in from the storm and now has temporarily moved into the house of our Priest. His girl friend has moved in too. So, because I am in this neighborhood, not in the church box, but in this neighborhood, I now have three I am sharing God’s word with, and we have only been there one month. It started with “the One”.

4.) The vision is to: “Go forth…in weakness.” Paul said, when I am weak, then am I strong. It is a paradox. That is why we don’t understand it and fail to do it. God makes it work because it is his way and not ours. He sent the seventy “forth” in “weakness”, as lambs amidst wolves. I don’t have time to completely get into this because I am busy living it. I am not just a crusader for Christ, but I am a “Caped” crusader, because as I recognize my weakness, but still obey and go forth in faith, God Covers me. That “Covering” is an anointing that all the great witnesses of God has known. It is the power to be a witness. It is becoming the Priest we are called to be, going forth to save our city, one person, and one neighborhood at a time. The Ripple Effect. I have written about this. There is much written on this site if there are those who are curious.

5.) Batman said, “Gotham needs me.” Jesus says the same about your neighborhood and city, but we must be “Caped” if God is to use us. PRAYER is key to our priesthood. My house shall be known as a house of prayer, Jesus said. Then we go forth not in our strength, but in our weakness. We do not resist God, but we are weak towards him. We are weak towards our God so we can be strong in our God. I embraced this Batman metaphor, this Gotham vision, and now my life is full of adventure and passion as I see the enemy being exposed and pushed back around me. It is a heroic lifestyle for those who understand the true heart of God. This vision has been a tremendous spiritual blessing in my life.

6.) I may try to report in here once in a while when I get the chance, but for me, the action is out in the streets. People are dying out there. Jesus came to be with the sick. He leaves the 99 to go to the one. If you’re one of the 99 and you don’t feel God like you use to? He’s probably waiting for you to leave the 99, of which you are one, and help him reach another ONE. In a sense, his strong presence has left you to find the ONE, because you are now part of the 99, but he invites you to join him in that great adventure to save your city.

I’m not even going to check this article for mistakes, it is what it is. I’m anxious to get out there. For the 2-3 faithful readers I have had, thank-you so much for your encouragement. If you have a blogsite reaching and affecting people, keep doing it, but for me, I seem to be more effective “out there”. I am still writing, but it looks like “book form” has become my goal. I love the things God has done with “Jonah Joe”. I give them out as God leads me and the feedback has been awesome. Be blessed everyone, and love your neighbor as yourself. I’ll drop a line from time to time if God leads me to do so.

“Do You have Your Gotham?” > Chapter Eighteen

The Encounter III > What is God’s covering? What does it mean to be anointed and become a caped crusader, standing against the evil of our day? What is the calling of a Priest, and to be more than just a good person? Perhaps you say, “But I’m not a Priest, I’m just saved.” Just saved? Oh but you are, my friend. You are a Priest. If you are saved, then you have been elevated into a supernatural royal Priesthood. The question is, when will you realize the value of what you have received in Christ?

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Don pondered the events of the past few days, his city, his Gotham, under spiritual attack on a magnitude beyond all expectations. It literally seemed that all hell was breaking loose on an unsuspecting people, and not a thing could be done about it, or so it seemed. Nothing our current leaders have any knowledge of doing, at any rate.

It had begun in the dark corridors of politics. Indianapolis saw a need to pass the RFRA (Religious Freedom Reformation Act), like several other states had already done. No big deal, right? WRONG! The whole thing blew up nation wide, and his city was now daily national news! But why? What was special about Indianapolis? Why Indianapolis and not the others?

It was a fire storm to the nth degree. As he worked his daily job, slowly driving through the parking lot in his silver Honda Civic, he called the “Silver Bullet”, not as in a beer, but going back to the Lone Ranger, a man who had to put on a mask and cover his face, live like an outlaw in order to fight the evil of his day, as he slowly cruised through, keeping an eye on the safety of those vehicles, he listened to every word, every lie, and every defeat coming over the airwaves.

More than one Christian had already been driven out of business by the homosexual agenda, simply because it was a violation of their faith to be involved in such a wedding. “Is there not a cause?” David had declared to his brothers and Israel’s army. So Christians are undeserving of any kind of legal protection as their faith comes under attack? Can the average person afford to fight a legal battle in our expensive courts? Do I have freedom of religion in America, as long as it harms no one else? Can a Christian speak of what that Book says, in America, without being financially ruined? Is that freedom? The free exchange of beliefs and ideas? Are not Pastors paid to speak every word of the Bible? Is that not their expertise? Has their very job become a fast ticket to jail, in America, land of the free? How far we have slid! And the pace is quickening!

Why Indianapolis? Could it be they see us as vulnerable? The next target on their list? As the idol god of MONEY began to threaten our city, I watched our governor fold like a house of cards, and a city go into panic. It was shameful, completely embarrassing, a black mark on this city. Yes, I do believe we are vulnerable, and the evidence is plain to see. RFRA had to be fixed, even though there was nothing wrong with it, fixed so we do not lose MONEY, who cares about the Christians, our MONEY is at stake here.

Don tried to find any source of logic in what he was watching unfold. Mass delusion was upon the people, logic and reason meant nothing. It did not matter what was true, only the perception, only the smoke and mirrors, only the lies, only the MONEY! And what does this reveal about the hearts of those promoting the lies? It must be a very dark place in which they live, but God’s anointed ones live in light, and we are a threat to their darkness, so we must be silenced in any way they can. You are a threat, Priest of God. You are covered and caped in something they don’t understand, but they are the haters, for they hate the light.

I do not believe in stealing. Do you? I do not believe in lying. Do you? So, if because of my faith, I do not believe in what a thief will do, does that mean I “hate” thieves? Or that I “hate” those who lie? I may not like what they do, and I may be against what they do, but that does not mean I don’t care about them personally! And it certainly does not mean I hate them! Is this something “unbelievers” are incapable of? Certainly not, for how many rehabilitation systems do we have? We prove our capability of this every day! And yet, they say you can’t be against homosexuality without being a hater? Oh how darkness loves to make the street only run their way, but it does mean that I do not want to take part in what they do! Nor do I want to promote it! Do I, as a Christian, a follower of Christ, still have that right in America? Do you, as an unbeliever, have the right to hate stealing, without hating the thief? There is no difference here, but as it has been said, logic and reason cannot stand against mass delusion, and they are perfecting it. How close are they to perfecting psychological warfare?

I watched my Gotham grovel before the feet of the idol of MONEY. The darkness was so thick I could cut it with a knife. They say 50% of hate crimes are committed by people 25 years of age or younger, as in the recent killing of nine African American Christians in a Church in South Carolina. Do you know what that means? The hand writing is on the wall but the professionals of our time fail to see, the blind leading the blind. This shows our future harvest! We have sowed these seeds and a very dark harvest is coming! Is homosexuality only 2% of our society? Check your schools and see what is coming! Yes, there is a great need for God’s caped crusaders.

Don found himself praying as he cruised in the Silver Bullet, and a scripture filled his thoughts:

“For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.” (Isa. 60:2)

(Dear Lord, as I have taken it upon myself to share these dangerous thoughts in a world rapidly changing, I pray for common sense once again to be alive and well in America. As the homosexual is free to believe what they choose, in the free exchange of ideas, I pray that so am I. Continued soon, I hope.)

Living with Fire / Feeding the Flame #2

“And Mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.” (Ex. 19:18)

GUARDIANS OF THE FLAME.

“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.” (Lev. 6:13)

Redeemed from fire by fire! Yes, T.S. Eliot said it well. Consumed by either fire or fire. Consumed by grace or sin. Am I on fire for God? I have been charged by God to never let the fire go out! Guardians of the Flame!

How do I live with fire? How do I feed the flame so it never goes out? What is this heroes journey? To slay a dragon, to save a city, to live in such a flame.!To light yourself on fire and live there. Where does such a life come from? It is not five of the six archetypes inside each of us. It is not the Orphan, the Innocent, the Wanderer, the Altruist, or the Warrior, but it is the Magician, the Mystic, the Priest.

You must step across the line of mere mortal and flesh, and into Spirit and Priesthood. Blessed art thou Simon, for flesh and blood hath not revealed this to you! Only God can create a bush that is on fire but not consumed. Try to do this in your own power and you will fail. It will be a strange fire, not of God, and you will be consumed, not eternally sustained. “Priesthood is a supernatural lifestyle of surrender”. (Try to explain that one.) It is mystic. It is the highest level of existence in unity with God. And every one of us is called to it. Being a Christian is more than just being a good person, it is a Priesthood.

Priesthood is a supernatural lifestyle of surrender.

If you’ve never truly been on fire, and if you’ve never truly surrendered, then you know not of what I speak. Neither do you likely believe it, and certainly not crazy enough to try it, after all, look at all the things you might have to lay down, and then what? What if you could not get them back? What if it really did cost you something, like it cost our Lord? Even that fear of not getting it back betrays you. You are not Mystic, not Priesthood, but you are still in a fearful, selfish, carnal state, and you have not tasted of God’s ultimate peace, or joy.

I find myself writing words stronger than I expected. Can I explain any of this? Hhmm, Jesus walked on water. I think water offers us a lesson. I use to be a terrible swimmer, and because of that I had a fear of drowning. My wife, who is an excellent swimmer, tried teaching me how to float, so if I ever got in such a situation, I could simply lie on my back and float. It sounded good. It made perfect sense, but there was one problem. The more you “relax”, the more you “let go”, the better you float. If you tighten up like a rock, you tend to sink like a rock, and sense I had a fear of drowning, guess what? I found it extremely difficult to float. It was very hard to relax and let go when fear was gripping me. Try it some time. You’re scared to death but you’re going to begin mentally relaxing each muscle, slow your breathing, and command your heart to slow as well. Mentally, it is a very hard thing to do, to slow the racing heart gripped in fear.

Nevertheless, floating was there for me. It was there all the time, I simply did not have the faith to tap into it. I was resisting the water, instead of surrendering to it, like a mighty eagle surrenders to a current of wind. Most of us live as little flapping sparrows, not soaring eagles. But don’t we all long to be the soaring eagle? God longs for that for us, and he offers it.

So what does this have to do with feeding the flame in us? ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!!!

If we will not surrender to the supernatural habits of a priest in Christ, i.e. a quality prayer life, faith, fasting, obedience, God’s Word, and God’s holiness, then the fire will never be sustained. This supernatural flame that fills the universe with passion will be lost to us.

Do we not believe God’s word? Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all these other things will…?

Yes, this is too much for five of the archetypes in us. But not too much for the Mystic, it is where he lives! It is where he burns with passion and thrives! Because he has learned the surrender that feeds the fire! He has gone to the cave and received a God-given vision! Now he is on fire with it, like Merlin who got the vision for Camelot! And then he raised up a King Arthur, who drew the sword from the stone!

No, you would not want to live such an authentic life. That life burns too hot for most of us. We would not dare to be so alive.

A book I once was impressed with, I have puled from the shelf to remind myself of. No, not everything I read is scriptural, but I must admit this book impressed me, about these six archetypes in all of us, and a heroes journey. The book is: “The Hero Within”, by C.S. Pearson. Of course the teaching has passed through my own filters, but I’m mixing some of that into this series. There will likely be more.

Fire purifies. There is a supernatural path bordered with flames, and so alive, not many dare to walk it. Just the Mystics, the Priesthood. The Spirit of God can take us there, if were willing to enter into that supernatural surrender, get a vision from God and burn with it! It’s hard to think about yourself when you’re filled with such passion. As a matter-of-fact, you won’t even miss yourself. Good riddance to the one that was slowing you down. The true Mystic and Priest understands. Just as I eventually learned to float, so can anyone seek God and learn of this way we speak of. The Bible is the authority on this powerful life, and Jesus is its author. (“For we walk by faith, not by sight:”) II Cor. 5:7 Faith…a powerful supernatural force practiced by God’s Priesthood.

You can’t take it with you, or can you?

We’ve all heard the saying, “You can’t take it with you.” In death we leave it all behind. The money, big house, hot car, all those material things we worked so hard for. We spent so much of our life pursueing these things, but what are they worth now? As Ecclesiastes would say, they pass to other hands, and who is to say that all your hard work does not end up in the hands of a fool?

However, there actually are a few things that go with you. Have you thought about it? Maybe not? We spend so much time pursueing the things we can’t take, and we fail to realize the old saying is not completely true! We would do well to seriously consider what will go with us in the grave.

I can think of three things that go with you. Maybe you can think of more, but for my purposes these three will do. Most important of all is your SOUL, this is your most valuable possession! However, your SOUL will be affected by the other two. When you realize how few things you can actually take with you, it should cause us to put a very high value on those items.

What value is your SOUL compared to earthly pleasures you may be seeking? The soul is eternal, and may be possessed by you eternally if you choose. What other possessions do you have that you can say that of? But God’s Word says you lost it! Sin has separated us from God and the wages of sin is death! What tragedy it is to lose the most important thing we can eternally possess!

This would be more tragic than losing your home, money, health, anything you may “think” you own, because you do not really own those things. You will let go of everyone of them. You will leave them behind as your SOUL passes through the veil of death to meet its Maker.

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Matt. 16:26a)

Lose his own soul. His own soul. It’s yours to lose.

(Luke 21:19) “In your patience possess ye your souls.” (Jesus speaking to his disciples.)

So what are the other two things you take with you? Your words and deeds. These will be the things whereby your SOUL is judged. What do our words and deeds reveal about us? Your words and actions will reveal if you ever truely received Christ as your saviour. It will not be your words alone, but your words and deeds. God’s Word says you may judge a tree by its’ fruit.

True salvation, the saving of our soul so we may possess it eternally, will show up in your words and deeds. Not only when you speak those words of repentance unto God, admitting you are a sinner, and how sorry you are, and your desire to follow after him, but in your actions, proving if you meant those words or not.

You are your soul. If you die in a lost condition, then you have lost the most precious thing God gave you. You were born in this lost condition, and you failed to believe, you failed to make a right choice and accept God’s tremendous offer of grace. And for what reason? To pursue a bunch of stuff you can’t take with you? So sad.

This is my first time working my blogsite from the downtown Indianapolis Library. I am shoulder to shoulder with others. My Bible is spread open on the table as I write. Four different people have set next to me during this time. As I get better at this it is my hope that a door will open with someone.

I’m not use to the distractions going on around here, compared to my writing nook at home. I have struggled to write my thoughts today, but the potential is worth it. This is just my first time. We actually just got our Internet service back up at home for one-third the price we were paying, but I intend to come here 2-4 times a month, praying for a door to open, and then another, and another. It will happen.

I come here on Tuesdays because there is a Southern Baptist Home Group meeting in this downtown area at 7:00 pm. So I have this one big day a week. I work till four, hit the Library till 6:30, and the Home Group at 7:00. This is my Gotham. I can’t expect anything to happen if I’m not out here. Things are happening, and I hope to write more on those things soon.

LET THE RIPPLES GO FORTH!

“J.E.D.I. Theology” #4

“To journey without being changed is to be a nomad. To change without journeying is to be a chameleon. To journey and be transformed is to be a pilgrim.”  – Mark Nepo  (Taken from book: Christian Wisdom of the Jedi Masters by Dick Staub.)

“The same followed Paul and us, and cried saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us THE WAY of salvation.” Acts 16:17

Luke Skywalker did not know it, but as he went about his drab and dreary day upon the desert planet, his whole life was about to change. He was about to take not only a physical journey, but also a spiritual one, on his way to becoming something more, a transformation. He was so restless within, anxious for a great adventure. He was outgrowing his current environment, but was he ready for an encounter with Obi-Wan? Ready or not, it came. Have you outgrown your current environment?

Many are called but few are chosen. In the parable of the sower, he was casting his seeds everywhere. Those seeds were scattered into ditches, on the road, in some fields, some on good ground and some on bad. Many different things happened to those seeds. Some died on the hard ground. Some died for lack of water. Others took root quickly, but became distracted by cares of the world, weeds choked them out, and they did not make the journey. But some…fell on good ground…made a journey…were changed in the journey… and produced.

It’s so easy to be distracted. Many times we settle for way less than were capable of because we don’t want to discipline ourself to the heroic journey. Yes, there is training and discipline involved to have Jesus Every Day Intense and Judge Every Day Inspired. J.E.D.I. Theology is for those who are looking for something more, a transformation, an heroic journey that changes you, and you’re willing to pay the price to become that person, come what may.

The power is in the Priesthood. What do I mean by that? The price we pay is to learn how to live as the priest we are called to be, involving such disciplines as quality prayer, redline faith, willing sacrifice motivated in love, fasting, study, speaking to mountains, arresting the devil, standing in the gap between man and God and offering a hand up. It is a physical and spiritual journey. It is a hero’s journey. It requires courage, a sense of mission, the vision of the need, and a passion for the purpose. It requires your true commitment to rise above the “settled for” life, to live like a man or woman on a mission, because you are.

There is A WAY that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the WAYS of death. We are God’s people of THE WAY. We need to be that people in this earth. There is a way for us to live that is powerful and full of peace and passion, if we will rise to it. Jesus is that way, as we pray, Holy Spirit master me. Will the ripples of our life make a meaningful difference in our neighborhood, our city, our earth? This is J.E.D.I. Christianity. “JESUS EVERY DAY INTENSE!”

“MORE THAN I KNOW”

“MORE THAN I KNOW”

Lord help me know the value of a soul…even my own.

These things we take for granted.

The sun rises. / Just another day?

Is there really any such thing?

A stone drops in water. Is that all I am?

Just the plunk of a stone?

Is that all I am?

Ker-plunk?

But no…there are ripples.

About those ripples. Do I care?

We all cause them.

Every action…every deed….every word.

Even if I don’t care, I still cause ripples…

bad ones.

I am a stone dropped in water.

Ker-plunk!

But I’m not “just” a stone. I am ripples,

and the ripples are very important.

Jesus said, LIVE FOR THE RIPPLES.

Ripples speak louder than words.

God will judge.

How to fix so many little waves?

Only God.

Do not take for granted.

Jesus said, “I am the way.”

The only way.

This day is important…

I am important…

MORE THAN I KNOW.

I believe in the Ripple Effect. The ripple effect of discipleship. “Go ye therefore and teach all nations…”. The personal story of “Gotham” will continue soon. I am more than a month behind on it now. Much is happening. This poem was written as I worked my new job. (I do not end up at STARBUCKS. Details will come in the story.)

The fact that so much is happening is part of the reason my story is farther behind. If you go to the first chapter of “Gotham” and read of its humble beginnings, one might surmise there was little hope for one such as I. But now I find myself in a new job, going to a new church, and having made many new contacts outside that church. God is doing a thing and it is blooming and blossoming one day at a time. Not on my timetable, for surely I would have rushed into things more quickly if I could have.

The first “House of H.O.P.E.” is about to launch! More can be learned about that by going to 1000housesofhope.wordpress.com

Since I’m so far behind, I will try to squeeze a little more into the next chapter of “Gotham”. But may the reader understand that those things happening now, would not have happened without being faithful to God’s leading in chapters 1,2,3,4, and so on. Every chapter has been important, even when it may have felt like I was getting nowhere and did not understand what was going on. Should you decide to become a Caped Crusader for God, you can find inspiration and understanding in every chapter. It’s hard to get people to actually read and study, these days. But for those who do, God has his rewards. Let it be a Holy Spirit Ripple Effect.

“Do you have your Gotham?” > Chapter Twelve

THE ENCOUNTER III > This story is written as if fiction, but it is not. Fellow Christian, have you heard a call in your heart saying: “Gotham needs you?” Has God challenged you to take your city and your neighborhood very “personal”? That is what happened to me. I am caped in God’s Covering, and Indianapolis is my Gotham. Who’s yours?

CHAPTER TWELVE

The computer screen still glowed in front of him as Don relived that night with Chris. It was very simple and basic. How has Church become so complicated? After that first contact, Chris had begun to win some favor with the Apartment complex. This  was a “Point of Pain” area, so it was not hard to find ways of helping, and showing the love of God. He turned his minivan into a food pantry, and now, once a month, he was allowed to come to their monthly meeting in the Apartment Community Center and set up his food pantry. After the one hour meeting, people were allowed to sign up and come through the tables one by one.

Don remembered how the place was all abuzz when he entered the building that night. The tables were set up with food, but the meeting had not started yet. In the meantime he found Chris talking to a man named Charlie, and he was showing Charlie God’s plan of salvation by using a special phone app. Charlie found the diagrams very interesting, but was not ready to make a full commitment to Christ at this time. When Chris got called away to other things, Don found himself left there with Charlie, and an open opportunity.

“Charley”, he began, “Do you know that the Bible says God loves you?”

“Yes,” he answered. Charlie was well aware of what the Bible said about this.

“Do you understand that the Bible says God loves you so much that he was willing to come and die for you?”

“Yes,” the answer came again.

“Do you love God, Charley?” Don found himself asking.

“Yes,” Charley said.

“Well then, the question becomes, do you love him enough to give your life to him, like he did for you?”

Charley was very quiet. It seemed apparent he had accepted Christ many years ago but had drifted far away. Don could feel a heaviness on Charley’s spirit as he thought about these things, but he was not ready, so he prayed a short prayer with him, and knew God would speak more to Charley that night, as he pillowed his head.

After that, Chris and he had stood in the back for an hour while the meeting went on. A chair to sit would have been nice, but somehow that never happened and Don was happy just to be there. After the meeting people signed a card and lined up at the first table where Chris and Don stood waiting to pray. As each person approached and handed their card to Chris, he asked them, “Do you have a need we can pray about with you?” Amazingly, most of them did. Many of the people had already begun to look upon Chris as their Pastor, and they called him Pastor Chris.

Don was still amazed at the power he felt when praying for these people. How quickly words had come. How precise had been the prayers. How powerful they had felt, God doing a quick work, one by one, as Chris would pass a person to Don, and then he would take the next, and so it went one by one, powerful, precise, anointed. God was there! He was almost tangible!

“Did that all really happen?” he asked himself again as he sat in the glow of the blank computer screen. Yes it did. He knew it did, but still could hardly believe it. So different than what goes on in the comfortable and safe confines of the Church building. Simple Christianity, in a place of needs, meeting needs, both physical and spiritual, and God showed up in a special way in that difficult environment. The woman whose child had been killed in the playground, confessed she still wrestled with depression over it, and Don watched as Chris prayed for her. You could feel her sincere gratitude.

Big changes were coming Don’s way. He had answered God’s call to take his neighborhood and city very “personally”, like a Batman saying: “Gotham needs me!” But what would that mean? What would be the personal price to pay? Where would it lead? What kind of training? It is not like in the movies where everything happens in a nice package of two or three hours. Gaining an open door to an apartment complex, a community, a workplace, the lost, the streets, can take many months of prayer, training, and sacrifice. Are we willing? Are we willing to say, “Here am I, Lord.”, when God is asking, “Who will go?”

Don was about to leave the church of forty people he had been so involved with for three years, but it use to be two-hundred people, something was not working, and God was calling him away to a Church of six-hundred, to start from scratch again, and all this at the age of fifty-nine? But he needed a Church that was daring enough to embrace this vision, not only in word, but also in deeds.

Still unemployed and living on the part-time wages of a Cracker Barrel waitress, God had blessed their money to survive on for one year, but this was about to change too. So many changes to walk this path, so many adjustments to reach this new level, so much renewing of the mind, thinking outside the Church Box, submitting and obeying God’s revelation as it came, ordering his steps into a greater realm. Christmas was almost here, and after that 2015. Don already knew that 2015 was going to be something special…something radical…something like a Caped Crusader saying: “Not in my city, devil. I arrest you in the name of Jesus. And I will put works and obedience with my words. Show me the way, Lord. Here am I.

Batman? Maybe we need to learn something from the comic books. Stories of “super” heroes. Where are all the super-heroes of God? It does not come by us becoming super ourselves, but by us tapping into the One who is. Are we willing to pay that price? In comic books we see super heroes willing to defeat the super bad guys and save the people, save the city. We do have a super bad guy and his evil legions. OF COURSE, GOD’S TRAINING IS DIFFERENT THAN BATMAN’S, BUT ARE WE WILLING TO ANSWER SUCH A CALL?

This is the story of one who said yes, and these are the things that happened after I did. And God led me to others already saying yes, so I in turn could lead others to say, “YES”.
