So what is God’s next move? Where does he take us from here? What is his next “progression” for man after the Levitical priesthood garments which, among other things, consisted of a Breastplate of “Judgement”! We see a spiritual journey, or progression, from animal skins, to Levitical Priestly garments made of linen, and then one more step yet to come which is what this third article will be about.
Moses is symbolic of the Law, and it should be noted that Moses failed to enter God’s Promised Land, whereas, Joshua, a name that also means “Jehovah-saved”, would be the one that ends up leading God’s people into all the promises of God. Moses being symbolic of the Law, once again reveals the failure of the Covenant of Law to bring us back into unity with our Creator, God All-Mighty.
One might ask the question: How many people are there who have accepted Christ as their Savior and have been delivered out of spiritual “Egypt”, but have failed to cross the wilderness and enter into God’s promised land living, a life based on supernatural faith? We are delivered “out of” Egypt, but that does not mean we have entered “into” promised land living. There is also “wilderness living”, a place many people get lost in.
What does it mean to truly learn how to live a life of faith? What does it mean to pray a prayer “skillfully”, instead of as a novice? How many people do not even understand this concept that in order to enter the Land of Promise, there are things to be learned in the wilderness, and if you fail to learn, you never leave the wilderness?
You see them every day, in every walk of life, Christians who have failed to catch the “vision” of following Christ. They do not see the supernatural side of it. They neglect their spiritual priesthood and do not even realize the powerful life of faith, joy, peace, and sacrifice they could be living. They have no comprehension of what it really means to live in God’s presence daily, and your steps ordered by the Lord. They have no understanding of wearing God as your power suit! And dwelling in the “secret place” of the Most-High. They have not studied, or trained, or learned. They have not graduated from their wilderness schooling, so they are still stuck in wilderness living, and some may even go back to Egypt.
Yes, all of this applies to understanding the next set of spiritual clothing we have been given. Wilderness Christians are not making use of what is available to them in Christ. They do not understand the principle of spiritual preparations, of which mostly involves “getting dressed” in Christ. Too many Christians are running around spiritually half-naked and nobody is saying anything!
Satan can see them plainly, because they are still dressed in wilderness clothing. Those who truly walk in the power of the Land of Promise have learned that they must dress daily in a power suit, and they must drink of Christ on a rich and regular basis to maintain that suit of light reflecting Christ. Satan sees “them” plainly also, and when he sees Christ reflected back at him he knows he is dealing with someone who is a “hunter”, not the prey, and the devil thinks twice, yea even three times, before attacking.
“These people” usually make him wish he never touched them. Oh, don’t get me wrong, the devil cannot help himself, he falls to temptation, he cannot help but try to attack the one he hates, but in the end, “these people” make him regret it. These people make the devil wish he never touched them, just like he wishes he had never touched Christ! Has the power of God ever rose up in you to make the devil wish he never touched you? If so, what did you do? Did you know what to do? Were you successful?
Does God really want me to wear him like a power suit?
How would I even begin to do this?
David knew how to do this. David understood this secret. The little shepherd boy who grew to become a great warrior, King, and priest! If I could recommend one example to people, other than Christ, it would be David. Practice what he practiced with God and you will have a rich Christian experience.
Psalms 91 speaks of it. Because I have made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High my “habitation”…
“Because he hath set his love upon me…”
David was a “lover”, a lover of God. A man after God’s own heart. A lover of God’s presence. As the deer panteth for the water so my soul longeth after thee! David understood things that few others understood. In a time when all they knew was law and animal sacrifices, David understood that was not what God wanted. (Psalms 51) How did he understand that? Time alone with God. Time in love with God. Time in nature, time in quiet, time in love with God, singing his songs of praises and love, drinking of the presence of God. Again, I say, drinking of the presence of God.
When we drink of Christ, we get dressed!
Let us now begin to look at what is the spiritual attire being offered by God, in Christ! This is the “progression” being offered now!
Dare we neglect so great a gift when in the spirit realm what we are clothed in is everything!!!
Paul is the one who gives us some great insights concerning the spiritual attire we receive in Christ. Every word you are about to read are of great importance, for they paint us a picture of something that takes place in the spiritual realm we cannot see.
“And that, KNOWING the TIME, that now it is high time TO AWAKE OUT OF SLEEP: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. THE NIGHT IS FAR SPENT, THE DAY IS AT HAND: let us therefore CAST OFF the works of darkness, and let us PUT ON the ARMOUR OF LIGHT. Let us walk honestly, AS IN THE DAY; not in rioting and drunkeness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But PUT YE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lust thereof.” (Romans 13:11-14)
Most people do not wear the same clothes to bed as they wear out of the house while shopping, working, visiting, and so on. Paul is using that analogy to help us see a very important spiritual principle. Before we receive Christ it is as if we are asleep. It is as if we are in darkness asleep. Even after we are saved in Christ we have to be vigilant against this temptation to become spiritually lazy and fall back into sleep!
Lets just say that when we sleep we wear pajamas. Paul is saying “Wake up!” “KNOW THE TIME!” In Christ day has dawned! Now cast off your pajamas! Cast off your night clothes! Cast off the works of darkness you were clothed in! Day has come! Arise and get dressed! Put on Christ! Put on SPIRITUAL ARMOUR OF LIGHT!
So Christ is described by Paul as a spiritual armour? He is described as spiritual armour of light?
We do not walk out of our house still dressed in our pajamas, and we do not leave our house naked, at least not if we are in our right mind, and yet we fail to dress spiritually day after day as the power of God slowly drains away and we become more and more naked!
It is time to exercise our priestly rights, get before an altar of our making and drink deeply of Christ! Recharge that armour of light!!! We go too long without drinking! We are busy! We are busy taking care of our family, helping people, doing good, going to Church, and all kinds of things, we are giving and giving and giving, but we are failing to “take in”, and the next thing you know, you are spiritually exhausted, spiritually burned-out, because you have not drunk of Christ and you are naked!
I have got to begin to wrap this up. Think of it. Paul describes it as a spiritual armour of light? How cool is that?
Most of you will know the next major scripture concerning this armour. These scriptures give us great details as to how this armour actually “is” putting on Christ, as each of these pieces were bought and paid for by Christ, represent Christ, are empowered of Christ, and given to us by Christ. We are expected to wear God as a power suit!
I’m going to break these verses down into a list. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
1.) Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might!
2.) Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil!
3.) For we wrestle against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world!
4.) Take unto you the whole armour of God (instructed by God twice now) that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day…
5.) Loins girt about with TRUTH.
6.) Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS.
7.) Feet shod with the preparation of the GOSPEL OF PEACE.
8.) The shield of FAITH.
9.) Helmet of SALVATION.
10.) Sword of the Spirit which is THE WORD OF GOD.
11.) Praying always…and watching there unto!
Each of the above statements are revelations into spiritual living. These articles we receive in Christ are mighty to pulling down of strongholds and protecting us against our enemy. If we take these things for granted, if we do not appreciate or understand what we receive in Christ, if we neglect to be faithful in our priestly garments, we will pay a price for being so careless and foolish. We have an adversary and he does walk around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. WAKE UP!!! Cast off your pajamas and get dressed. Dressed for Success!
My time is running out. I hope this three-part teaching has been able to open your eyes to a spiritual journey God expects us to make. A journey from animal skins and animal behavior, through Levitical garments of Law and self-righteousness, into the Armour of Light, and putting on Christ! I think any thoughtful person can read these scriptures and get a revelation from God as to how things work in the spirit realm.
Now I would be remiss if I did not at least mention the subjects of our wedding garments, being clothed in white, and keeping our garments spotless. These, too, are major teachings of scripture concerning God’s dress code for his people. If we are going to “Dress for Success”, we need to at least be familiar with these garments, so I will end with simply giving you a few scriptures that basically speak for themselves.
“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness…” (Isaiah 61:10 a)
“And it shall come to pass in the day of the Lord’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.” (Zephaniah 1:8)
“And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 22:11-13)
As you can see, this is a very serious issue when it comes to the “other side”, the spiritual dimension of which we all are headed, and the Bible prepares us for if we are wise enough to heed its message. A word to the wise? Or should I say 1,914 words?
A final challenge: Picture this armour of light. By faith understand how incredible this armour must be. It is not just words on paper. Paul’s words are describing something out of this world and very incredible! By faith, picture how powerful and how important this armour must be, and exercise your faith until you get EXCITED about it! And once you get excited? You’re just beginning to just barely get the picture. If you’re not excited about being clothed in Christ, then you need to recharge your faith! You need to get back to basics with God, drink of Christ, and get excited about your salvation again! Night is far spent! It is day! Cast those P.J.s away and walk in the power of God! Amen!
