“Dress for Success” – Part 3 – Conclusion

So what is God’s next move? Where does he take us from here? What is his next “progression” for man after the Levitical priesthood garments which, among other things, consisted of a Breastplate of “Judgement”! We see a spiritual journey, or progression, from animal skins, to Levitical Priestly garments made of linen, and then one more step yet to come which is what this third article will be about.

Moses is symbolic of the Law, and it should be noted that Moses failed to enter God’s Promised Land, whereas, Joshua, a name that also means “Jehovah-saved”, would be the one that ends up leading God’s people into all the promises of God. Moses being symbolic of the Law, once again reveals the failure of the Covenant of Law to bring us back into unity with our Creator, God  All-Mighty.

One might ask the question: How many people are there who have accepted Christ as their Savior and have been delivered out of spiritual “Egypt”, but have failed to cross the wilderness and enter into God’s promised land living, a life based on supernatural faith? We are delivered “out of” Egypt, but that does not mean we have entered “into” promised land living. There is also “wilderness living”, a place many people get lost in.

What does it mean to truly learn how to live a life of faith? What does it mean to pray a prayer “skillfully”, instead of as a novice? How many people do not even understand this concept that in order to enter the Land of Promise, there are things to be learned in the wilderness, and if you fail to learn, you never leave the wilderness?

You see them every day, in every walk of life, Christians who have failed to catch the “vision” of following Christ. They do not see the supernatural side of it. They neglect their spiritual priesthood and do not even realize the powerful life of faith, joy, peace, and sacrifice they could be living. They have no comprehension of what it really means to live in God’s presence daily, and your steps ordered by the Lord. They have no understanding of wearing God as your power suit! And dwelling in the “secret place” of the Most-High. They have not studied, or trained, or learned. They have not graduated from their wilderness schooling, so they are still stuck in wilderness living, and some may even go back to Egypt.

Yes, all of this applies to understanding the next set of spiritual clothing we have been given. Wilderness Christians are not making use of what is available to them in Christ. They do not understand the principle of spiritual preparations, of which mostly involves “getting dressed” in Christ. Too many Christians are running around spiritually half-naked and nobody is saying anything!

Satan can see them plainly, because they are still dressed in wilderness clothing. Those who truly walk in the power of the Land of Promise have learned that they must dress daily in a power suit, and they must drink of Christ on a rich and regular basis to maintain that suit of light reflecting Christ. Satan sees “them” plainly also, and when he sees Christ reflected back at him he knows he is dealing with someone who is a “hunter”, not the prey, and the devil thinks twice, yea even three times, before attacking.

“These people” usually make him wish he never touched them. Oh, don’t get me wrong, the devil cannot help himself, he falls to temptation, he cannot help but try to attack the one he hates, but in the end, “these people” make him regret it. These people make the devil wish he never touched them, just like he wishes he had never touched Christ! Has the power of God ever rose up in you to make the devil wish he never touched you? If so, what did you do? Did you know what to do? Were you successful?

Does God really want me to wear him like a power suit?

How would I even begin to do this?

David knew how to do this. David understood this secret. The little shepherd boy who grew to become a great warrior, King, and priest! If I could recommend one example to people, other than Christ, it would be David. Practice what he practiced with God and you will have a rich Christian experience.

Psalms 91  speaks of it. Because I have made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High my “habitation”…

“Because he hath set his love upon me…”

David was a “lover”, a lover of God. A man after God’s own heart. A lover of God’s presence. As the deer panteth for the water so my soul longeth after thee! David understood things that few others understood. In a time when all they knew was law and animal sacrifices, David understood that was not what God wanted. (Psalms 51) How did he understand that? Time alone with God. Time in love with God. Time in nature, time in quiet, time in love with God, singing his songs of praises and love, drinking of the presence of God. Again, I say, drinking of the presence of God.

When we drink of Christ, we get dressed!

Let us now begin to look at what is the spiritual attire being offered by God, in Christ! This is the “progression” being offered now!

Dare we neglect so great a gift when in the spirit realm what we are clothed in is everything!!!

Paul is the one who gives us some great insights concerning the spiritual attire we receive in Christ. Every word you are about to read are of great importance, for they paint us a picture of something that takes place in the spiritual realm we cannot see.

“And that, KNOWING the TIME, that now it is high time TO AWAKE OUT OF SLEEP: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. THE NIGHT IS FAR SPENT, THE DAY IS AT HAND: let us therefore CAST OFF the works of darkness, and let us PUT ON the ARMOUR OF LIGHT. Let us walk honestly, AS IN THE DAY; not in rioting and drunkeness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But PUT YE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lust thereof.”    (Romans 13:11-14)

Most people do not wear the same clothes to bed as they wear out of the house while shopping, working, visiting, and so on. Paul is using that analogy to help us see a very important spiritual principle. Before we receive Christ it is as if we are asleep. It is as if we are in darkness asleep. Even after we are saved in Christ we have to be vigilant against this temptation to become spiritually lazy and fall back into sleep!

Lets just say that when we sleep we wear pajamas. Paul is saying “Wake up!” “KNOW THE TIME!” In Christ day has dawned! Now cast off your pajamas! Cast off your night clothes! Cast off the works of darkness you were clothed in! Day has come! Arise and get dressed! Put on Christ! Put on SPIRITUAL ARMOUR OF LIGHT!

So Christ is described by Paul as a spiritual armour? He is described as spiritual armour of light?

We do not walk out of our house still dressed in our pajamas, and we do not leave our house naked, at least not if we are in our right mind, and yet we fail to dress spiritually day after day as the power of God slowly drains away and we become more and more naked!

It is time to exercise our priestly rights, get before an altar of our making and drink deeply of Christ! Recharge that armour of light!!! We go too long without drinking! We are busy! We are busy taking care of our family, helping people, doing good, going to Church, and all kinds of things, we are giving and giving and giving, but we are failing to “take in”, and the next thing you know, you are spiritually exhausted, spiritually burned-out, because you have not drunk of Christ and you are naked!

I have got to begin to wrap this up. Think of it. Paul describes it as a spiritual armour of light? How cool is that?

Most of you will know the next major scripture concerning this armour. These scriptures give us great details as to how this armour actually “is” putting on Christ, as each of these pieces were bought and paid for by Christ, represent Christ, are empowered of Christ, and given to us by Christ. We are expected to wear God as a power suit!

I’m going to break these verses down into a list. (Ephesians 6:10-18)

1.) Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might!

2.) Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil!

3.) For we wrestle against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world!

4.) Take unto you the whole armour of God (instructed by God twice now) that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day…

5.) Loins girt about with TRUTH.

6.) Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS.

7.) Feet shod with the preparation of the GOSPEL OF PEACE.

8.) The shield of FAITH.

9.) Helmet of SALVATION.

10.)  Sword of the Spirit which is THE WORD OF GOD.

11.) Praying always…and watching there unto!

Each of the above statements are revelations into spiritual living. These articles we receive in Christ are mighty to pulling down of strongholds and protecting us against our enemy. If we take these things for granted, if we do not appreciate or understand what we receive in Christ, if we neglect to be faithful in our priestly garments, we will pay a price for being so careless and foolish. We have an adversary and he does walk around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. WAKE UP!!! Cast off your pajamas and get dressed. Dressed for Success!

My time is running out. I hope this three-part teaching has been able to open your eyes to a spiritual journey God expects us to make. A journey from animal skins and animal behavior, through Levitical garments of Law and self-righteousness, into the Armour of Light, and putting on Christ! I think any thoughtful person can read these scriptures and get a revelation from God as to how things work in the spirit realm.

Now I would be remiss if I did not at least mention the subjects of our wedding garments, being clothed in white, and keeping our garments spotless. These, too, are major teachings of scripture concerning God’s dress code for his people. If we are going to “Dress for Success”, we need to at least be familiar with these garments, so I will end with simply giving you a few scriptures that basically speak for themselves.

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of  salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness…” (Isaiah 61:10 a)

“And it shall come to pass in the day of the Lord’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.” (Zephaniah 1:8)

“And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 22:11-13)

As you can see, this is a very serious issue when it comes to the “other side”, the spiritual dimension of which we all are headed, and the Bible prepares us for if we are wise enough to heed its message. A word to the wise? Or should I say 1,914 words?

A final challenge: Picture this armour of light. By faith understand how incredible this armour must be. It is not just words on paper. Paul’s words are describing something out of this world and very incredible! By faith, picture how powerful and how important this armour must be, and exercise your faith until you get EXCITED about it! And once you get excited? You’re just beginning to just barely get the picture. If you’re not excited about being clothed in Christ, then you need to recharge your faith! You need to get back to basics with God, drink of Christ, and get excited about your salvation again! Night is far spent! It is day! Cast those P.J.s away and walk in the power of God! Amen!

“Dress for Success” – Part 2

God’s involvement in man’s physical and spiritual attire.

As was stated in Part One, we see a “progression”. God did not simply take us from the animal skins straight to a glorified power suit. Man has a journey to make.

It is believed that before Adam and Eve sinned, they were clothed in some kind of glory or light from God. Can I prove that? No, but it makes sense. Just because Adam and Eve were innocent does not mean God would have them running around naked. It’s just not God’s way. Besides, we will learn that spiritual attire is very important in the supernatural. When they lost their glorified relationship, one of the first things God did was clothe them. Also, God immediately begins working in the direction of bringing us eventually into a power suit that Paul referred to as “Armour of Light”. Once man is restored in Christ and reestablished into relationship with God, we are instructed in the need to “put on Christ”. To cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light. We are told to cast off the works of darkness and get dressed! It only makes sense that this was also part of God’s original design.

When Moses came down out of the mountain after being with God for such a period of time, it is recorded that his face and skin glowed with light and caused the people to fear. A veil was put on his face when he spoke to the people. (Exodus 34:29-35) Now Adam and Eve had exposure to the presence of God that was much longer and stronger than anything Moses had. Yet when sin entered in, the “separation” from God was so immediate, suddenly Adam and Eve felt naked! And it was this “separation” that caused God to ask the question:

“Adam, where art thou?”

It was not that God could not find Adam, but the relationship had been broken, and now a separation, causing God to ask, Adam, where art thou? Adam was no longer with God! God wanted to make a point, and hear Adam say it.

Before we move from the Levitical Priesthood and their example of being “Dressed for Spiritual Failure”, let me show you what a huge part your “spiritual attire” plays in the supernatural. First I will give you a physical example, and then a spiritual one to show how they relate.

Most people know the story of Joseph, how he was sold by his jealous brothers into slavery and ends up a slave in Egypt, and finally into an Egyptian jail! Jails in those times were not a nice place to be! You can imagine after a few days of being there what Joseph probably looked like. In a few months his clothes would have been dirty, worn, and torn. This was proper attire for an Egyptian prisoner. However, when the king dreamed a dream that needed an interpreter and Joseph was suddenly summoned to the king’s court, I imagine they cleaned him up at least a little bit before he went. But even if that did happen, his physical attire was nowhere near what it needed to be to become the second highest in command in Egypt! Second only to the king! When Joseph was chosen by the king to be second in command, an immediate change of attire was provided! This is a very powerful Bible principal revealing a spiritual parallel! As you rise in spiritual authority, your attire will reflect it!

As you rise in spiritual authority and power, your spiritual attire will reflect it! (Or not!)

In other words, the devil can see everything he needs to know about you by the garments you are clothed in! At one glance he can see if you are an easy target or not. God can also tell everything he needs to know simply by the condition of your attire. Here is what happened to Joseph immediately with his promotion.

“And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;” (Genesis 41:42)

This is a physical and spiritual principle. This shines a whole new light upon a generation of young people who want to run around with their pants hanging off their rears and their bodies full of tattoos! These young people may not realize it, but if they are not dressing any better in the spirit than they are in the flesh, then they are meat for the devil’s grinder!

When we speak of a “Power Suit”, there is no place that applies more than in the spirit realm.

I know this may be a ridiculous example, but it is one most people can relate to, so I will use it anyway. In the movie “Iron Man 2”, Tony Stark is getting his butt kicked by a bad guy because the bad guy has caught him without his iron suit! Tony Stark is not the superhero, Iron Man, without the iron suit!

In the midst of Tony trying to survive, his suit is finally put back into his possession, but guess what? It still does him no good unless he “Gets Dressed”!!! There is a proper suit for our spiritual calling in Christ, but too many of God’s children are running around half-naked! We have not prepared in the Spirit to face the wiles of the devil! Perhaps the most important thing you can do each day is get dressed! (And how do we do that? It may not be entirely what you think.) But to continue our teaching…

Without that suit the bad guy was ready to tear Tony up. This is a very serious scriptural principal in God’s word. Psalms 91 speaks of God being our “habitation”, and that we move and live in him, as another scripture says. How do we wear God like a power suit? David understood how, and in that understanding is great joy and a great secret. Here is a spiritual example of being dressed for success, or failure.

And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:11-14) (As I said…a very serious matter indeed!)

So…before we leave the dressed for failure Levitical Priesthood, if you are judging your chances of being accepted in heaven based on how well you have lived by the Ten Commandments? I can tell you right now that you are dressed to fail! And you most certainly will fail. When God sees you in that Breastplate of Judgement? Get ready! Judgement is all God will have for you. There is no mercy or grace in the Ten Commandments. If you are reading my words, that means God is giving you one more chance to understand that “putting on Christ” is the “only” acceptance into his kingdom. Anything less than a garment washed in the blood of Christ will get you bound and cast out of heaven.

The Power Suit we speak of can only be provided through the blood of the lamb that is able to pay its price. This is no ordinary suit we speak of, and heaven is no ordinary place. The spirit realm and the supernatural is no ordinary place. When I stand before God I will be wearing Christ like a power suit. Indeed, I will be literally hidden in Christ. When Tony Stark is wearing his armour, you cannot even see him! All you can see is Iron Man. The devils do not tremble when they see you! But when you are clothed in Christ? Lookout! It is a whole different story!

There is so much to say here. I do not want to leave the “animal skins” and rush into the “Armour of Light” until we thoroughly understand how important this is. If you catch the “vision” of what I am writing you will never look the same on getting “too busy” to spend time drinking of Christ. For that is what we are speaking of. Drinking of Christ is only one part of prayer, but in my opinion it is the most important part! If we have time for only one part, let it be to drink of Christ! For then we will be fortified to grow in Christ and live in the supernatural. If we are faithful to get dressed and not run around spiritually naked, all the other principles of our priesthood will come! It is a supernatural chain-reaction, Christ in us!

But they said, No, we will not dress.

I hope that is not you. I hope that when you see God’s precious Armour of Light, provided at such a high cost, that you cannot get out of those “animal skins” fast enough! I hope you rip those Levitical garments of the Law to shreds in your effort to receive the precious grace of Christ! I hope you catch the vision that Christianity is supernatural, or it is nothing at all! Give me that supernatural power suit of God!

Of course, the devil will try to convince you that none of this is very important. God will overlook your unfaithfulness. This guy is making a mountain out of a mole hill. I’m not really naked. How dare he compare a comic book hero to something that is sacred and spiritual! And on and on his lies will go.

I have another message I am anxious to get to, but God is not releasing me to do so. He wants this principal of spiritual attire taught in power and detail! There is so much more I have not yet touched on.

God “wants” to be your Power Suit against the devil!

God does love you, and the devil is his enemy. God has already defeated Satan, but you have not! God loves enabling you to have victory over your enemy! Let God become your habitation today. Fall in love with him the way David did. Drink of Christ on a regular basis and watch the supernatural chain-reaction begin to happen in you! Next week we will take this farther. Christ came to bring light to a people dressed in the Levitical garments of failure. Jesus was walking around in the power of love God, and love your neighbor as yourself, while the religious leaders he faced were experts in the law. Law was willing to crucify love!

Law was willing to crucify love, and love submitted, knowing it was the price for man’s redemption. Law makes the cross a cruel instument of torture and death, but love turns it into a place of salvation! A place bringing forth life! I ask you, which is the greater power?

“Dress for Success” – Part 1

Who told you that you were naked?

That was the question God asked Adam in Genesis 3:11. Remember the old fable about the king who thought he was wearing a very impressive garment? Remember how he had been sold a lie, and he was actually parading around in his underwear, but because he was the king, and the garment was supposed to have been made by a great tailor, nobody had the nerve to speak up and point out the fact that the king was walking around half-naked! Some were even convinced that he was wearing an extremely fine garment!

Are we selling ourself the same lie?

What does it mean to put on Christ? If our idea of putting on Christ is what we do when we go to Church on Sunday, and the other six days of the week are spent too busy for God, then we are certainly walking around “naked”, and God is telling us so!

Who told you that you are naked? Has anybody had the nerve? How can we if we are naked ourself?

I find it very interesting how a God who is invisible is so very “into” clothing! God is very “into” clothing! Of course, Jesus was not invisible and he dressed in a way to please our heavenly Father. We are not invisible either. Have you taken notice of God’s involvement in the “progression” of clothing mankind, for it is very revealing. Very revealing indeed! There is much to be learned by a study of what the word of God reveals about clothing, and God’s involvement in it.

What was the very first example of this “after” man’s fall into sin? Genesis 3:21.

“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”

This is very significant information, for not only does it initiate the first shedding of blood for man’s sin, revealing the curse of death now entering into our environment, but it is also symbolic of a certain “covering” of our sin, just like the Old Covenant was supposed to do in all the sacrifices of the animals, shedding the blood and “covering” our sins until the perfect lamb of God could actually “take away” our sins completely! Providing a scape goat! Not just a covering with animal skins, but a taking away completely! Gone! Forgiven! Price finally paid! Praise God!

But I see something else here, too. I think God is very disappointed in his man, and when he gives them the clothing made of “animal skins”, it is as if he is saying… Here! You want to live like animals? Then you might as well wear their skins!

Woe and wow! I’m not trying to put words in God’s mouth, but…I think I have a point here. As evidence of this I point out how much the Bible constantly reminds us that we are not as the animals. That we are made in the image of God. That we have an eternal soul. If we choose to live like animals we live in sin, but God’s word constantly reminds us that we are not to be reduced to animal behavior! Did God know that a theory called Evolution would be a major lie of the devil, and would constantly need to be counteracted? Do you see how Evolution tries to convince us we might as well wear animal skins? Evolution says we descend from animals, and it worships the creation, rather than the Creator! (Romans 1) But God says our origin is with him and has nothing to do with evolving from animals! Still…man can choose to live like animals…if they disregard God’s laws.

So the picture we should see in our mind is Adam and Eve being cast out of the beautiful utopia of the Garden of Eden wearing animal skins. What a sad picture indeed. One that has led to so much animal behavior by those who choose such a path. On any given night, there are places one can go and find animal behavior running rampant. It is interesting to note that the wilderness temple used by God’s people while they made their desert journey was covered by animal skins! (Exodus 36:19) To be precise, it was a layer of Ram’s skin dyed red with a layer of badger skins over them.

Animal skins can be seen in more places than just the lustful attractions of night life. They are also seen in the lust for power, dominance, and greed. If one has the attitude of who cares who you have to step on to get to the top of the ladder, then that expensive suit you’re wearing is nothing but animal skins. If you don’t care for your people, but suck every drop of blood from them before casting them away, then in the eyes of God, you have become like an animal.

You will find as we continue to study God’s involvement in clothing man, that what we are wearing “spiritually” is very significant! It will literally determine your eternity! I don’t care if you’re dressed in the finest garment by the greatest tailor as you go out on the town for the night. Animal skins!

God sees the condition of our spiritual attire! He gave man animal skins as they left Eden that day, but that is not where God left man, for the next step in our progression from God comes with that very wilderness temple, when he gave the directions for the “linen” clothing that the Priest were supposed to wear. No more animal skins, but linen clothing upon the priest of the Levitical priesthood! You can see that we are moving “up” in our spiritual attire, but not so fast, because God is setting us up for failure! This is just another step in our progression, but we are not yet where God is taking us. First we must learn that we can never be good enough in ourselves to be good enough to gain heaven. Therefore, we must first have a priesthood of the Law. The Covenant of Law! The Laws of Moses! And those Laws will crush us, proving us guilty, over and over again!

The Levitical priesthood of law was doomed from the beginning! The only success ever intended of the Covenant of Law is to lead us to the Covenant of Love and Grace in Christ!

God has not dressed us for success yet! We are now dressed for failure! There is a way that seemth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death! Man still wrestles with this! He is still trying to be “good enough” today! Many still have not learned that they will not get to heaven by trying to be good enough, and trying to live the Ten Commandments! This is a hard lesson to learn! Even with everything Jesus said, and the Jewish people as a living example, most religions still preach a message of “earning” your own way to heaven! The Gospel message of Christ is the only exception to that!

The Levitical Priesthood garment consisted of several very specific articles of clothing, but let me just point out a couple of things. The Priestly attire had a breastplate, but it was called the “Breastplate of Judgement”! (Exodus 28:15) Looking back on that, I can see where that did not bode well from the very beginning!

It also had a cap with some kind of a plate on it that said: “HOLINESS TO THE LORD.” That sounds all fine and well until you consider that you are expected to be that “Holiness” by your own will power! Bringing you right back to keeping all the laws of Moses!

One other thing I noticed was that there is no mention of any specific footwear. This only becomes significant when you consider that Satan is compared to a poisonous snake which usually can only strike so high. Another good reason cowboys wore boots! But I see no mention of any specific footwear having any symbolic meaning for these Levitical priest. Trying to earn your own way to heaven leaves you open for every attack of the enemy!

Let me wrap up Part 1 by saying this. God is not just interested in clothing us in white, but what we are talking about is a real POWER SUIT! The suit may be white, or it may be light, but it is also POWER! Power like you never imagined before!

In our “progression”, God has not gotten us to this “Power Suit” yet, but if you want to be “Dressed for Success”, then you greatly need to check out what you are wearing, and what condition it is in. This is a suit worth more than money could ever buy!

I’m going to leave you with the Levitical Priesthood wandering in the desert and dressed for failure. They are on their way to God’s Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey, but before any of this can be achieved spiritually, we still have a long ways to go! In the realm of the Spirit, how we are dressed is directly connected to power! Or lack there of! In the spirit we show our colors! (As an ex-homeless person explained to me.)

I’m not just teaching about garments of white, I’m showing you how the spirit realm works! And why it may not be working for us, because we fail to dress for success on a regular basis. We are dressing for failure, because we fail to dress! We are running around naked! We are sinning in the eyes of God! And we expect to walk in his ways and in his power? It shall not be so! And yet, there is a Power Suit that makes Iron Man look like Tiny Tim tip-toeing through the tulips!

Be sure of this. God has involved himself in clothing man both physically and spiritually from the very beginning! Even before his fall! If God is so concerned about this, then it must be important, and perhaps there is more here than we have ever considered? What does it mean to wear God like a Power Suit? To make God our “habitation”? Oh my, we find ourselves at Psalms 91 again. Is there a Secret Place?

To be continued in Part 2!
